President urged not to grant assent to transgender bill

Over 140 legal professionals and activists have urged President Murmu to reject the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026. They argue the bill, passed hastily, violates constitutional rights by removing the right to self-perceived gender identity and introducing a medical board for identity certificates, potentially excluding marginalized transgender individuals from essential protections.
