Several immersed idols of Dasama were pulled with flood water today on the historic Dandi beach in Navsari. These idols were seen on the shore in a decomposed state. Devotees bid farewell to the idols of Dasama at the Owara of Purna river in Navsari on Saturday. These idols were made of POP (Plaster of Paris) and were immersed in the Purna River. These idols were pulled to the beach of Dandi during the tide of the sea today. Home guard personnel and locals confidently moved the idols from the shore. Local sanitation workers also systematically picked up the idols and set them aside. According to experts, such a situation would not arise if dasama idols are made of clay and immersed. The immersion of POP idols spreads pollution in the river and the sea and also hurts the faith of the people. After this incident, there is a discussion among the locals that the use of clay idols should be increased to avoid harm to the environment in rituals. Immersion of POP idols is also prohibited as per government rules, but it is not followed properly.
