A total of 778 candidates filed their nominations for 42 seats in 12 wards in Surat on Thursday. A total of 1,580 candidates have filed their nominations for 94 seats in 24 wards in 2 days. Not only this, the BJP's census process will also be carried out for 6 more wards today. Notably, the highest number of 104 contenders have emerged in Surat's Khatodara-Mazura-Sagrampura ward 20. There will be 3 panels in each ward.
State Election Commissioner S. Addressing a press conference, Murali Krishna said that the local body elections in Gujarat will be held on April 26, 2026. The counting of votes will take place on April 28, 2026. A new rotation of OBC reserved seats will be implemented in this election
