Brazil's Supreme Court has ordered the house arrest of former president Jair Bolsonaro. He is accused of plotting to rebel to stay in power despite losing the 2022 presidential election. The court said Bolsonaro had violated the precautionary restrictions already imposed. Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who is overseeing the case, said Bolsonaro had sent public messages through his three legislator sons, violating sanctions. Bolsonaro addressed a rally of his supporters in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday over his son's phone. "Good afternoon Copacabana, good afternoon my Brazil, this is for our independence. The court termed it as a direct violation of the rules. Following this, the Supreme Court ordered him to be kept under house arrest, to wear an electronic ankle monitor and to seize all mobile phones from his house. What is the case of conspiracy to revolt? Brazil's public prosecutors accused Bolsonaro of using force to retain power after the defeat in the election the Supreme Court had already banned him from going out at night and ordered him to wear an ankle monitor. US President Donald Trump has described the court's decision on Bolsonaro as an act of revenge. He has called it a political vendetta. Earlier, the US had imposed a 50% tariff on goods imported from Brazil. After trump's move, the nationalist atmosphere in Brazil has heated up. All political parties have strongly opposed it. On the other hand, Bolsonaro's son Flavio accused the court of dictatorship and said that Brazil is now officially a dictatorship. He also deleted bolsonaro's message video from Instagram.
