Actress Ashima Vardhan Jain, who has worked with nine veteran actors of India early in her career, has made her debut in films with the Hindi film 'Daila Baila: Badalgi Kahani'. The film has recently released on Waves Original. During a conversation with Divya Bhaskar, the actress said that this is a film that challenges today's conservative thinking and gives a strong message for the younger generation. Q: How did you get inclined towards acting? A: "As a child, I have always been a part of school competitions. I have been a part of stage shows in school and college. The field of acting is not new to me. At the age of 9, I got the opportunity for the first time to act in an advertisement for Manappuram Gold Loan with veteran actors like Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Mohanlal, Mithun Chakraborty, Venkatesh, Chiyaan Vikram, the late Puneet Rajkumar, Sachin Khedekar, Manav Gohil. I got a chance to work.' Q: How did I get the opportunity to work in such a big advertisement? Answer: 'My parents wrote that advertisement. I used to accompany them whenever they had a meeting. A little girl was needed for advertising. The producer asked if you would work? Without hesitation, I said tell me what I had to do. I read the lines and showed the dance steps and then it was finalised.' Q- What did you do after that? A: 'After that I did a lot of voice overs. I advertised many products like Life Boy Soap, HFD Bank, Wipro. I did a lot of theatre during school and college. Parents would always encourage me to do new things along with studies. He always used to say that whatever you do, do it with complete concentration, but studies have always been my priority. I always liked to study. I have done a Bachelor of Management course from St. Xavier's, Mumbai.' Q: How did you get the opportunity to work in 'Daila Baila: Badalgi Kahani'? Answer: The music director of this film knew me since childhood. It was through him that I got a chance to work in this film. I gave the right screen test and audition for the film. Then I was finalised for the film. Q: How was your experience while shooting for the film? A: 'It was a very good experience. I like simple home-cooked food. I don't get this kind of food during the shoot. When I was shooting in Barabanki near Lucknow, I found a restaurant there. Where I used to get food like home. I was ordering my tiffin from there. I got to learn a lot from the senior actors of the film.' Q: The film has been released, how is the response you are getting from the people? Answer: 'This film is the story of a changing India. The message conveyed by my character is that our decisions should be our own and not anyone else's. A lot of girls relate to this message. I received messages from many girls about this. Everyone said that this is a very beautiful message.' Q- How do you see your career now? A: 'The kind of character I have played in this film, I want to play such characters in which a big message has been given in a very simple way. If it could make a person's life better, I would feel that my career is going in the right direction." Q: If the film had released on the big screen, would it have had a different impact? A: 'I think Waves Original is a platform whose reach is very wide. We all grew up watching television and listening to the radio. Waves is also Prasar Bharati's OTT platform. Through this, the film has reached out to everyone. What can be bigger than this."
