The bugle of local body elections in Gujarat has already been sounded. Elections to 10,005 seats in 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats and 260 taluka panchayats will be held in a single phase on April 26. The BJP's census process is underway, in which the two-day census process for the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has been completed. More than 1200 candidates filed their nominations on Day 1 on April 2 and more than 1000 candidates filed their nominations on the second day on April 3. According to sources, Jamalpur and Maktampura wards, which are considered to be minority constituencies in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, had fewer candidates. The process of selecting candidates in the Congress has been completed. The panel could not be formed on the seats where there is a dispute or impasse. A round of meetings will be held today (April 4) in the presence of observers at the state level for such controversial meetings. In these seats, seats where there is competition between strong contenders with similar equations will be decided. In the meetings to be held on Saturday, the work of the municipal corporation will be taken up first and the candidates will be announced on April 5. In Rajkot, the Congress has decided to field old jogis. As many as 20 candidates have been telephonically informed.
