A special NIA court has acquitted all seven accused, including Sadhvi Pragya, in the Malegaon blast case in Maharashtra. There were seven main accused in the case. These include former BJP MPs Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, Colonel Prasad Purohit, Ramesh Upadhyay, Ajay Rahirkar, Sudhakar Chaturvedi, Sameer Kulkarni and Sudhakar Dhar Dwivedi. "We will appeal against the NIA court's decision in the high court," said Shahid Navin Ansari, counsel for the victims. The investigating agencies and the government have failed in this case. On September 29, 2008, six people were killed and nearly 100 injured in an explosion in Malegaon. In the verdict, which came after nearly 17 years, Judge AK Lahoti said that since the investigating agency has not been able to prove the charges, the accused should get the benefit of doubt. Judge Lahoti said the explosion took place, but it was not proved that the bomb was placed in the motorcycle. It has also not been proved that the motorcycle was in the name of Sadhvi Pragya. It has also not been proved that Colonel Prasad Purohit made the bomb. The case was scheduled to be decided on May 8, 2025, but the court later reserved it till July 31. The initial investigation into the Malegaon blast case was conducted by the Maharashtra ATS. The case was handed over to the NIA in 2011. The NIA filed the charge sheet in 2016. In this case, 3 investigating agencies and 4 judges have been changed. Take a look at the live blog below to see minute-to-minute updates...
