A team of police and cow vigilantes have busted a major case of animal cruelty in Valsad district. The Pardi police received specific information that illegal cattle were being transported in a suspicious truck (number KA-01-AN-5028) going from Surat to Vapi. On the basis of this information, the police along with a team of cow vigilantes set up a watch near the Bagwada toll naka. As soon as the container of the truck was opened, the police and cow vigilantes were shocked to see the scene inside. As many as 55 small hamlets were brutally stacked in closed containers without any provision for fodder or water. The condition of the cattle was critical due to lack of adequate air. The police have arrested 5 persons from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, including Ansar Aziz Khan, Sabir Asu, Tahir Rashid, Sarfaraz Yakub and Abid Ayub. Irshad Nur Mohammed and Vinod from Kerala have been declared wanted. According to cow vigilantes, the rising demand for beef in Kerala is likely to trigger a large network of such illegal cattle supply from Punjab. Pardi police have registered a case under the Animal Protection Amendment Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and started further investigations.
