In a heart-wrenching incident in Rajkot city, 25-year-old Sagira has been raped by her own cousin. The accused gave false assurances of marriage, took the girl to different places several times and raped her and finally made her cry. The girl was threatened that she was living in fear, threatening to kill her if she told anyone anything about it.
The incident raises serious questions on the society's hateful treatment of women and the incriminating security concerns. In today's era, where daughters are considered to be the form of Lakshmi, such incidents show that there is no fear of society for the hawkers, nor the fear of the law. There is no longer any attitude of the society for such hooligans and there is no fear of the law. The sad thing is that now the woman is not safe even inside the house, whether outside the house.
In protest against this horrific incident, the Nirmata Green Foundation has sent a petition to the Prime Minister of the country via email. There is a clear demand that strict punishment, such as the death penalty, should be given to perpetrators of such heinous crimes, so that no future criminal dares to commit such acts. According to Nirmata Green Foundation, 'We often hear about such inhuman incidents, which prove that today in India, daughters are not safe even from members of their own families.'
This is a wake-up call for the Gujarat government. Now, not only is an investigation necessary, but there is an urgent need to strengthen the effectiveness of the law. A statewide awareness campaign for women's safety, gender awareness programs at school and college levels, and immediate action policies against criminals have become essential. Now is the time for all of us to come together to create a cultured society where women are not weak despite being humble, and criminals face swift and severe punishment. Morality, culture, and justice – these are no longer just matters of books, but need to be followed in real life.
