BJP Plan for Assembly Elections: Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana are going to be held in the next few days. With assembly elections due in Maharashtra and Jharkhand due later this year, the BJP, which is facing internal discontent in Jammu and Kashmir, has started preparations to do well in the elections in other states. In the meantime, the BJP can adopt a special strategy by giving tickets to candidates who are mostly young and not already involved in politics. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi in his Independence Day address had also appealed to end casteism and racial politics and bring new faces into politics.
From 2014, the practice of removing old candidates started
Since 2014, the BJP has started the practice of giving tickets to new faces by removing 30 to 33 per cent of the old candidates. "Prime Minister Modi's directive to induct new people into the party will be implemented in states like Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand. However, there is a possibility that in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, old and experienced leaders will be in greater numbers than younger leaders."
Leaves of veteran leaders cut in Jammu and Kashmir
Assembly elections are going to be held in Jammu and Kashmir after a decade. Meanwhile, the BJP has denied tickets to several old and veteran leaders, including deputy chief ministers Nirmal Singh and Kavinder Gupta. However, after this move of the BJP, there is a lot of internal dissatisfaction in the party. Many veteran and experienced leaders have resigned and are protesting against the party itself.
Anti-BJP wave in Haryana
Assembly elections in Haryana are scheduled to be held on October 5. After being in power here for 10 years, the BJP is now facing an anti-incumbency wave. Issues of caste and reservation have become a big challenge for the BJP. After breaking the alliance with the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), the BJP no longer has a strong ally in the state.
"The party leadership in Haryana has sought feedback from workers about possible candidates. Surveys and discussions were conducted to prepare a list of the best candidates keeping in mind issues such as caste equations, age group and their popularity in different fields. The list of candidates will be announced soon."
Preparations are also underway for Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand are also scheduled to be held later this year. For these two states too, the party has initiated the process of finding young candidates and training them. "Through various means like Yuva Morcha, Minority and Mahila Morcha, our leaders helped connect people who have nothing or little to do with politics. These people include industrialists, students and professionals. We will give a platform to many of them to enter politics."
