Saurashtra farmers face major crisis due to rains: Fear of groundnut crop failure, seeks help from the government

Rajkot: After the ubiquitous and good rains in the month of July, the problems of the farmers of Saurashtra have increased as the clouds took a break in the month of August. After waiting for a long time for the second round of rains, now the heat of the world has become helpless in front of nature. There is no hope of heavy rains for the next one week as there is a fear of failure of agricultural crops.

At present, the groundnut crop is looking green in the fields, but behind this greenery lies the hard work of the farmers day and night. Due to the lack of rain for the last one month, the farmers are somehow saving the crops by irrigating the crops with water from wells and borewells. However, due to continuous stretching, now the bottom of the wells has started to appear and the ground water level has also gone deep.

Lack of rains also threatens cotton and soybean cultivation

rains is posing a big threat not only to groundnuts but also to the cultivation of cotton and soybean, which are the main cash crops of Saurashtra. If there is no natural rain in the coming days, then all the costs of expensive seeds, fertilizer and labor will be incurred. When electricity is needed the most to save the crop, there are frequent power outages from the power company.   Also, cases of motor burns are also increasing due to the serious problem of low voltage in rural areas.

MLA demands release of water in canal

Dhoraji Upleta MLA Mahendra Padelia has written to Minister of State for Water Supply and Water Resources Ishwar Singh Patel   Release of irrigation water.   Bhadar-2 Dam,   Phofal Dam,   Letter has been written to release water from Moj Dam, Venu 2 Dam, Fulzer Dam through canal for agricultural irrigation.   Due to the lack of rain in the Dhoraji Upleta area, the farmers are finding it difficult to save the crop.   Dhoraji Upleta MLA Mahendra Padelia has written a letter to release water from the dams in the area into the canal through irrigation immediately.

Jodia taluka of Jamnagar district has received negligible rainfall in the current monsoon season.   On the one hand, many centers received 10 inches of rain in a single day. Inches of rain fell, but only 2 to 3 inches of rain fell in the twin talukas.   As a result, the cultivation of groundnut by farmers in Keshiya village is on the verge of failure.   The farmers do not have any irrigation facilities and now the farmers are in a miserable situation so that they can survive only if the government provides assistance.

Jodiya taluka, says he owns 5 acres of land.   In which he planted groundnut, he spent about 6 to 7 thousand rupees on one bigha of cultivation, but the rains have decreased and there is nothing left in the crop due to the rains in the last month.   Now, if the government provides immediate assistance, the farmers can be saved.

Another farmer, Vasantbhai Godwani, said that he has 22 bighas of land, there is no water for the crop, agriculture is rain-fed and the farmers are in trouble due to the rains.   If the government completes the Sauni Yojana, then the farmer of Saurashtra has the power to cultivate crops by levelling the land.   He said that if the government completes the Sauni scheme, the farmers of the area will get relief and if the farmers get irrigation water, they will not need the government's help.

twin talukas and farmers are now regretting sowing groundnuts.   There is no rain and farmers have no irrigation facilities, so the groundnut crop is on the verge of failure.   Now the farmers are hoping for help from the government.
