3.7 magnitude earthquake jolts Amreli Fear in Rajula, Jafrabad and Savarkundla dioceses

The amount of earthquake tremors in Amreli district has been increasing alarmingly for some time now. An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 on the Richter scale was felt in areas including the coastal belt of Amreli at 2.24 am last (April 9). The tremors caused a huge panic among the people in Rajula, Jafrabad and Savarkundla dioceses and people woke up from their slumber and rushed to the streets. According to the Department of Seismology, the magnitude of the earthquake was 3.7 on the Richter scale. The epicentre of the earthquake was felt near Mahuva in Bhavnagar district, just 35 km from Rajula in Amreli. The tremors were most affected in the following areas: Panic in Rajula, Jafrabad and Savarkundla dioceses The earthquake was so strong in Rajula town that there were reports of small cracks in the walls of some old and kutcha houses. Truck driver Salimbhai, who was standing on Pipavav Road, said, "We were sleeping after parking the car when suddenly the car started shaking. The scenes of the chaos and tremors created during the earthquake have been captured in CCTV cameras of several residential areas, which are going viral on social media. The local administration and geologists are also monitoring the situation due to the continuous tremors that have been felt between Khambha and Savarkundla for the last eight days.
