The District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) of GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Dharpur, Patan celebrated World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. On this occasion, various games, nutritious snacks and kits were distributed for children with autism, as well as guidance to the parents. Children in the age group of 0 to 18 years are treated in the DEIC department functioning under NHM. The celebrations were attended by health sector leaders, doctors, children with autism and their parents. RCHO, THO Patan, Addl. MS, RMO, Doctors from Paediatric Department as well as nodal officers and members of RBSK team were also present. During the programme, the parents were provided necessary guidance for the holistic development of children through the symptoms of autism, early identification and appropriate therapy by Additional MS and RCHO. The main objective of the event was to spread awareness about Autism in the society and to provide an equitable and inclusive environment to children with Autism. Parents were also made to understand how to take care of the children. Fun, educational and developmental activities and games were organized for children in which children enthusiastically participated. Nutritious snacks and daily necessities motivation kits were distributed to the participating children. Medical Officer Damini Patel, Dental Medical Officer Priyanshi Bhojak, Manager Mihir Patel, Clinical Psychologist Panchal Jalpa, DEIC department staff and paediatrician doctors worked hard to make the entire event a success. The programme concluded under the guidance of medical superintendent Parul Sharma.
