An important information has come out from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The government is promoting piped gas i.e. PNG and under this, about 6000 people have given up their LPG connection so far. The ministry's secretary Pankaj Jain thanked these people on the social media platform X and also appealed to the rest of the people to give up LPG connections for the needy. The government plans to stop the supply of LPG in the coming time in areas where the PNG pipeline has reached, but people have not taken the connection. This rule can come into effect after about three months. However, where it is not possible to grant PNG, this rule will not be applicable if the NOC is obtained from the concerned agency.
The major reason behind this move is that there are problems in the supply of LPG from West Asia. In such a situation, the government wants people living in cities to adopt PNG, so that LPG cylinders can reach villages and remote areas where there is no pipeline facility. In the current situation, the supply of gas has been distributed on a priority basis. PNG used in homes and CNG for vehicles are being given full gas. At the same time, industries and shops are getting about 80 percent of the gas. Up to 70-75 per cent of the gas is being supplied to the factories. LNG is also being imported from outside to meet the requirement.
LPG?
LPG, the government has made it clear that the supply remains normal and more than 55 lakh cylinders are being delivered to the people every day. The supply of commercial LPG has also returned to normal by almost 70%, with priority being given to the hotel and food industry. The government has initiated strict action to prevent black marketing and hoarding. Recently raids were conducted at about 2900 places and about 1000 cylinders were seized.
PNG
PNG, companies like Indraprastha Gas Limited, Mahanagar Gas Limited, GAIL Gas and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited are also giving discounts and other benefits to people on taking connections. The government has asked the states to increase monitoring and expedite the implementation of gas-related schemes. At the same time, people have been appealed not to pay attention to any kind of rumours, as the situation is completely under control
