2013 Kedarnath tragedy: Search for skeleton resumes: More than a thousand people are still missing after this tragedy; 702 people have not been identified till date.

The search for the skeletons of those who went missing in the 2013 Kedarnath tragedy is likely to resume this year. So far, no trace of 3075 people who went missing in that accident has been found. For this, a petition was filed in the Uttarakhand High Court. The petition urged the government to find the skeletons of the missing people and perform the last rites with their honour. The government has sent teams four times so far. In 2020, a search team found 703 skeletons in Chatti and Gaumukhi areas. In 2014, 21 skeletons were found and in 2016, nine skeletons were found. In November 2024, 10 teams set out to search on various pedestrian routes, but they too did not succeed. Their relatives have been traced through dna tests of the skeletons found. In such a situation, preparations are being made to send a search team again this year. According to Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman, preparations are being made to send a search team this year as well. We are going to submit a report to the high court. In 2016 and 2019, the Uttarakhand High Court had again directed the state to locate the remains of 3,075 missing people and perform their last rites. Following the order, the government sent search teams to the trekking route around Kedarnath. 702 dead are searching for their loved ones The identity of 702 people who died in the Kedarnath accident has not been identified so far. Police have reports of DNA samples of the deceased. But the deceased have not been identified till date. Because none of the 6,000 people who gave his DNA could match. So, so far 702 people are waiting for their identity.
