Lions outside Gir to get protective cover

In a significant step towards the protection of Asiatic lions sauntering around in revenue (non-protected) areas outside the Gir National Park, the forest department has got in-principle approval to declare as a 'conservation reserve' a sprawling area of 109 sq km comprising 324 villages in Shetrunji range. The reserve consists of villages in Amreli and Bhavnagar districts having a presence of an estimated 110-130 lions.
