Oscars 2026: 10 Indian films, one global platform!: Films including 'Kantara', 'Homebound' and 'Mahaavatar Narasimha' in the race, the final seal will be sealed on January 22

It is every filmmaker's dream to be a part of the most prestigious Oscar film ceremony in the world. This is a huge achievement for India this year, as not one or two but 10 Indian films have reached this prestigious award ceremony. Notably, Rishab Shetty's 'Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1' and Anupam Kher's 'Tanvi the Great' have made their place for the most important category of the Oscars, the Best Picture. Both the films have passed the Academy's strict eligibility rules and have joined the list of 201 feature films eligible for the 98th Academy Awards. Indian films in the race for Best Picture Rishab Shetty's 'Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1' and Anupam Kher's 'Tanvi the Great' are among the 201 feature films that will be considered in the Best Picture category. To be included in the list released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), films have to meet not only the basic eligibility but also all the additional requirements. Other nominated films from India Apart from the Best Picture category, many other Indian films are also in the race for the Oscars. The total number of eligible entries reached 317, with the shortlists for Best Documentary Feature, Animated Feature and International Feature Film separately. Apart from 'Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1' and 'Tanvi the Great', major Indian nominated films include: Overview of the films 'Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1': Produced by Homble Films, the film tells the story of the origins of Daiva Puja in Tulunadu during the 4th century Kadamba dynasty. 'Tanvi the Great': Directed by Anupam Kher, the film is based on the character of Tanvi Raina (played by Shubhangi), a girl with autism. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Jackie Shroff, Boman Irani and Karan Tacker. Date of Final Nomination The final nominations for the 98th Academy Awards will be announced on January 22. Only after this, it will be clear which of these 10 Indian films will advance to the final round. The Oscar Awards ceremony will be held in April 2026.
