'Girl murdered and buried in house': Crime Branch investigated for 15 days after receiving insufficient information, human remains found in the soil deepened the mystery

A 34-year-old case. No papers, no complaints, no evidence. The police had only information and that too was inadequate. Yet, the police worked hard for 15 days to solve the case, which had been buried in the ground for years. The Gujarat Crime Files today talk about a thriller revelation involving wife, prostitution, a locked house and a ditch. In the second week of March, the team of Ahmedabad Crime Branch's PI AP Jebaliya received a tip-off. Informant: Sir, there was a murder many years ago. Police: Whose murder? Informant: A young woman was murdered and her body was buried in a house in Vatva's Kutub Nagar. The policemen came to PI Jebalia with the information. He told PI that he had reportedly killed the girl 33-34 years ago and buried her body in Vatva's Qutub Nagar. The PI told him that there was really something like this or that someone had spread a rumour? The policeman assured me that my informant should not lie, an inquiry should be conducted. Seeing his confidence, the PI believed his words. He informed the higher authorities. The higher officials told the PI that it is okay, you work but come up with some results. The next day, the PI called its entire team to the office and instructed them to work on the case. So a team of 8-10 people reached Kutubnagar in two different vehicles and started getting information about the area, the people here, the kind of houses here. The investigation lasted for 2-3 days. The police started their real work after getting to know the area better. A PSI and different policemen started questioning some people living in Qutubnagar. How many houses are there, who lives in them, which buildings are locked, who is missing from which house, whether there are any suspicious persons or not? All these matters were being investigated closely. On the other hand, the police were also getting information from the informant about the house in which the body was killed and buried because there were many houses in Kutubnagar. After a few days of questioning and investigation, the police found the house number 10 suspicious as it had been closed for many years. People around the area spread a rumour that someone came there and lit a lamp every week. When the police asked the people living around the house, they found out that a woman lived here years ago. He had sold the house to someone else. On the other hand, the informant also received information that the body was buried in house number 10, so PI Jebalia reached the house. He could see from his experienced eyes that the information he had received contained some truth. He met the higher authorities and took all the necessary permissions and decided to search for the body in the presence of the magistrate. Saturday, March 28 At 8 in the morning, PI Jebaliya, a PSI and a team of 10 people left from the crime branch office in two vehicles. As many as 8 labourers were called in with shovels, trikams, JCBs for the excavation. At around 8:45 a.m., police, labourers and magistrates arrived at the building. Police told the workers that the body could have been buried in the building. So dig carefully and inform if any remains are found. From 9 a.m., the workers started digging into the building. Due to the presence of the police, people in Kutubnagar came to know. So a large number of people came to see what was happening. People had gathered outside. The police removed everyone from there. After digging 5 to 7 feet deep, the FSL team arrived. As the soil started coming in, the police and FSL team started examining the soil wearing gloves in their hands. Since the body was supposed to be years old, the police knew that only the remains would be found. Word spread that the police were searching for the body in a locked house and media persons rushed to the spot. PI Jebaliya was worried when the media personnel arrived when the body was not yet found. If the body was not found, what would be the answer to him? It was the time of summer. By noon, the workers were exhausted. He was given some rest. The police had ordered food for them on the spot. The pressure on the PI to find the body also increased. The policeman who had given the information was called to him by the PI and told him that he would like the result now. So when he called the informant, the informant said, "Sir, the body will be found. You keep working hard, I will get more details on my own." After an hour's break, the excavation was resumed with the help of a JCB and other machines. A borewell was dug years ago where the excavation was going on. It was a cement and clay masonry. The excavation was done by machine and the labourers would bring it over the excavated soil and pile it up. The police and FSL teams were constantly trying to find the remains in the pile. If there was anything hard in the soil, it was washed and cleaned. Police found some small bone fragments. Although it was suspected that the non-veg had been eaten and dumped there years ago due to the ditch, the FSL team used to put it in a zip bag and send it away. Even though the excavation continued till about 4 pm, the policemen who did not find anything were disappointed to see each other. There was pressure on PI Jebaliya as well as he was confident that he would get something. He would encourage the policemen and tell them to continue working. Half of the borewell was in the building next to it. So the police prepared to excavate there as well. The neighbour was informed about this. When the police investigated, they found that there was a half-well at the bottom of the bathroom of the house and flats at the back. The wall of the flat had to be excavated as well. So PI Jebaliya came there and the residents of the flat agreed to excavate. By 6 pm, about 15 feet of excavation had been done but nothing was found, so everyone sat on one side and the excavation was going on with the machine. Around 6:15 p.m., workers were dumping on the excavated soil and found large human remains of human bodies. One of the workers said, "Sir, there is something here. Look. Immediately, PI Jebaliya and the team members reached and found that there were large human bones. The police told the workers to dig fast. There was some enthusiasm among the workers and the work proceeded at a fast pace. As we dug deeper, we found skulls, arm bones and leg bones. After hours of hard work since morning, the fatigue was removed from the mouth of the team as some concrete result was obtained. By about 8 p.m., most of the remains of the human body had been dug out from more than 20 feet. PI Jebaliya called up the higher authorities and informed them about the discovery of human remains. The remains found by the police were arranged in the shape of a human body. The remains were to be sent to the FSL for forensic examination, so the remains, along with videography, were sent to the FSL. When the remains of the body were found, one challenge was over, but another challenge stood in front of them. These were all questions on which the police investigation was to proceed.
