The food department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has taken a major action against suspected duplicate ghee being sold in the name of pure cow ghee in Ahmedabad city. The inspection was carried out by a team of designated officers and two food safety officers in the Indrapuri ward area of the south zone. During the investigation, a total of 4,850 kg of suspected cow ghee was seized for sale from three different locations in the city. The estimated cost of which is Rs. It is 31,81,273. Samples of "Rhythm Cow Ghee" and "Vachanamrit Cow Ghee" have been sent for laboratory testing by Food Safety Officers under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. During preliminary investigations, it was found that the ghee of both brands was produced by Sarthak Food Products in plot number 53 at Ode-Pirana Road in Paldi-Kakanj village of Daskroi taluka. The details have been sent to the concerned authorities of the State Government for further investigation and action in the matter. Two other distributors were also seized.
During the investigation, AMC also found information about two other distributors of the same products in Ahmedabad city. These include Vatva-based Veerkripa Trading and Dudheshwar-based Trishala Agency. As soon as the information was received, the AMC sent different teams to both the locations and conducted an investigation. During the operation, around 1,600 kg of suspected ghee, valued at Rs. 1,000 crore, was withheld for sale from both the locations. It is 10,49,488. Thus, a total of 4,850 kg of suspected cow ghee has been suspended for sale by the food department of the AMC in a joint operation at three different locations in the city, with a total estimated value of Rs. On April 23, 2026, the food department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) conducted a raid in the Nikol area and busted a racket of making duplicate cow ghee without a license. Approximately 400 kg of adulterated ghee made from a mixture of vegetable fat and palmolein oil has been seized and legal action has been initiated under FSSAI. The unit was proposing to manufacture 'Murlidhar Food Products' located at Ved Industrial Park-2 in Kathwara. The license number mentioned on the packing had also expired.
