Asha Bhosle spent her childhood in Indore: Sarafa Bazaar's gulab jamun and rabdi were her favourites; Madhya Pradesh Minister condoles

Legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle passed away today at the age of 92. He breathed his last at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Sunday afternoon. He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday evening. He spent his childhood in Murai Mohalla of Indore. He had a deep and emotional connection with Madhya Pradesh. His childhood was spent in Murai Mohalla in the Cantonment area of Indore, whose memories he often shared. The culture and environment of Indore left a deep impression on his personality. According to her relative Manoj Binwale, who lives in Indore, "Asha Tai was very fond of the sherbeti wheat rotis of Sehore and often used to order wheat from Indore. He had a special affection for the food and drink of Indore. He was very fond of the gulab jamun, rabdi and dahiwada of Sarafa's Khau Gali. As a child, she used to go to Sarafa Chowpatty." Asha Bhosle had come to Indore for an event about 17 years ago. He ordered home-cooked food from relatives. She herself was fond of making new dishes. "As a child, Asha Bhosle, along with her sisters Lata Mangeshkar and Meena and her mother, used to walk about 2.5 km from the camp to the artillery for a meal at a time," said Manoj Binwale, a relative who lives in Indore. He used to come to Indore more often. Being married at a young age, he could not spend much time here, but he always liked Indore's namkeen, Sarafa sweets and Sehore's sherbet wheat." Condoling her death, Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said, "Asha Bhosle's voice took Indian music to new heights and her association with Indore was a matter of pride for the city. The family stayed in Indore for some time with his father Deenanath Mangeshkar's drama company. Meanwhile, his elder sister Lata Mangeshkar was born in Indore. Asha Bhosle has sung more than 12,000 songs in more than 20 languages. His songs like 'Piya Tu Ab To Aja', 'Dum Maro Dum', 'Chura Liya Hai Tumne', 'In Aankhon Ki Masti' are still popular. He made his mark in every genre of ghazal, bhajan, pop and classical and worked with musicians like OP Nayyar, RD Burman, AR Rahman.
