The craze to plant 100-year-old and fully grown trees is now growing among billionaires in America. After expensive watches, private jets and supercars, big trees are becoming the new status symbols. Rich people are spending crores of rupees on big trees like oak, palm and banyan to make their homes and land look grand immediately. In California's Napa Valley, a 100-year-old oak tree, 50 feet tall and weighing about 100 tons, was recently removed from the ground with cranes and hydraulic machines. Special arrangements were made to protect its roots and then it was transported to another place by trucks. Rs 4.5 crore for 2 banyan trees A billionaire in Palm Beach bought two banyan trees for Rs 4.5 crore for his loan. At the same time, an African tamarind tree was also sold for about Rs 4.5 crore. Rich people do not want to wait for years for the plants to grow. So they are giving their property a grand and old look immediately by buying large trees. Competition among neighbors over trees This craze is no longer limited to planting trees. In Rhode Island, there is talk of competition over landscaping between the properties of Oracle's Larry Ellison and Blackstone's Stephen Schwarzman. Schwarzman planted more than 100 ornamental trees 18 feet high on all sides to hide his mansion from the eyes of the neighbors. More than Rs 9 crore was spent on this. It is not easy to transport trees up to 50 feet tall and weigh 100 tons from one place to another. Many times, the highway has to be closed and the electric wires have to be removed to transport them. The growing demand for big trees has also given a boost to this business. Some nursery owners are even building helipads for billionaire customers, so that they can come by helicopter and select the trees of their choice.
