Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (October 5, 2026) has hit back at former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar's statement advocating peace talks with Pakistan. The BJP has accused Mani Shankar Aiyar of once again trying to incite protests against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government by going to the neighbouring country (Pakistan).
BJP national spokesperson and Lok Sabha MP from Puri, Sambit Patra, targeted the Congress leader, saying, ' This is the same Mani Shankar Aiyar who went to Pakistan. There he said that now we have to topple the Modi government and remove Narendra Modi ji from the post of Prime Minister. He said, ' He wants to go there (Pakistan) once again and give an interview. He is not satisfied with just holding rallies or protesting in India."
Jaishankar wants to go to Pakistan- Sambit Patra
Countering the Congress leader's statement, BJP MP Sambit Patra while addressing a press conference on Monday (October 5, 2026), said, ' Now he wants to go to Pakistan and appeal there that there should be rallies against the Indian government in Pakistan too. Mani Shankar Aiyar say about the Modi government?";
Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir: On Pakistan and China, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar says, "I've explained it at great length. I can't explain it at such length here. But we are being seen as hypocritical. Because we tell the world this is not an era of war, and then we go to war with Pakistan. We say that there should be diplomacy and dialogue. The only countries with which we don't have diplomacy and dialogue is Pakistan. And with China, we have annoyed them by joining Quad. And now even America is saying that Quad doesn't matter. So what kind of a diplomacy is this? It has nothing to do with our strategic autonomy. It has everything to do with trying to play both sides against the middle. This is transactional, it's not moral."

He suggested talks on the Attari-Wagah border and said that it is not foreign policy to debate issues of the past.
At the same time, he made a sharp comment on the Modi government, saying, ' The government has the courage to carry out surgical strikes, but does not have the will to resolve the issues. India is being seen as a hypocrite and this is because we tell the world that this is not a period of war, but then go to war with Pakistan."
