India has lodged a protest against China for giving fake names to places in Arunachal Pradesh. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday said such false claims cannot change the ground reality. Arunachal Pradesh was, is and will remain an integral part of India. China has been naming and claiming some places in Arunachal Pradesh on its own. India rejected such a move, saying it was part of India. There can be no change in it. China has changed the names of 89 Indian destinations in the last 9 years. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal made the statement in response to a media query. In a press note, he wrote, "India completely rejects the fake names given to parts of its territory. It is a mischievous attempt by China to fix such names. On the other hand, China has created a new county named 'Chenling' in the Xinjiang region. It was approved on March 26. The area is close to the Karakoram region. It is located close to the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). A county is an administrative unit of China, similar to a district. India warned of impact on relations between the two countries India said such actions by China affect efforts to normalise relations between the two countries. China should refrain from such actions that bring negativity to the relationship and undermine the process of building good understanding. India's response comes at a time when tensions between the two countries over Ladakh continue. China has created a new county in Xinjiang region called 'Sanling'. This is the third time in the past year that China has created a new county in Xinjiang. Prior to this, the counties of 'Heyan' and 'Hekang' were created. A large part of Heian County falls in the Aksai Chin region, which India considers part of Ladakh. The connection to the Silk Route and CPEC is connected to the new county Kashgar region, which has been an important hub of the ancient Silk Route. The Silk Route was the historic trade route that connected China to Central Asia and Europe. Today, this region is also the hub of the launch of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The project passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), which India considers a violation of its sovereignty. Although the boundaries of Senling County are not clear, India has expressed concern over such administrative changes near sensitive border areas.
