28-year-old TMC dissolved in 13 days: Rebellion begins in Delhi, 58 MLAs separate; People close to Mamata Banerjee attended Suvendu's meeting

In West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has faced a breakdown for the first time after 28 years of the party's formation. As many as 58 out of 80 rebel MLAs of the TMC on Wednesday elected Ritabrata Banerjee as the leader of the legislature party in place of Mamata Banerjee. The Speaker also approved the claim. The entire game of rebellion started on May 22 with the meeting of TMC MLA Ritabrata Banerjee and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at Bang Bhawan in Delhi. This one visit split the party into two parts in just 13 days. Amid the ongoing political crisis within the TMC, several leaders considered close to Mamata Banerjee attended CM Suvendu's administrative review meeting on Wednesday. These included Kolkata Mayors Firhad Hakim, Kunal Ghosh, Naina Bandyopadhyay and Ashok Deb. This has further exposed the ongoing tension within the party. Confusion over resignation of Kolkata Mayor, Hakim submits resignation Confusion prevailed on Wednesday over the resignation of TMC leader and Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) Mayor Firhad Hakim. Kunal Ghosh claimed that Mamata Banerjee had accepted his resignation but Hakim did not formally resign till night. KMC Chairperson Mala Roy also said that she has not received any resignation. According to sources, Hakim is now reconsidering his decision. It is being said that Hakim's decision changed after attending the meeting chaired by CM Suvendu. Some party leaders also questioned his presence at the meeting. Hakim is considered to be one of Mamata's closest leaders. He has been the mayor of Kolkata since 2018 and has been one of the major Muslim faces of the TMC for a long time. He is the first Muslim mayor in the history of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation after Independence. Calcutta High Court directs KMC to issue fresh notices to Abhishek Banerjee's relative Amit Banerjee and Lips & Bounds Company Amid political turmoil, the Calcutta High Court has directed KMC to issue fresh notices to Abhishek Banerjee's relative Amit Banerjee and Lips & Bounds Company. The case is linked to the building in Kalighat where Abhishek resides. The court has directed the KMC to send a detailed notice within a week and respond to the petitioners within three weeks. Amit Banerjee and Leaps & Bounds told the high court that the notices issued earlier were incomplete and did not provide clear information. What's next: Mamata Banerjee will no longer get Opposition status, 58 of the 80 Trinamool MLAs are separate. As of this, Mamata Banerjee is left with 22 MLAs. Any group or party needs at least 10% (30 out of 294 MLAs) to be recognized as Opposition Party in the House. In the current situation, technically the Mamata faction will not get the status of opposition. His group will sit on the opposition benches, but the privilege will be less. The disgruntled group is being led by Ritabrat. The separate group needed the support of at least two-thirds of the 54 MLAs to avoid disqualification under the anti-defection law. The dissidents have 58, so the anti-defection law will not apply against them. The group also includes 17 Muslim MLAs from Malda-Murshidabad. In the last 10 years, five parties have split in 4 big states of the country
