FIFA World Cup 2026:  France beat Sweden 3-0 in the Round of 32 match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 to reach the last 16. Kylian Mbappe was the star of the team's victory. He scored two goals. Bradley Barcola scored the third goal for France. France have continued their impressive performance in the knockout stages after winning all their group stage matches.

France dominate the first half

France completely dominated the first half of the match, repeatedly attacking the Swedish goal. France had 15 shots in the first 45 minutes. One of Mbappe's goals was ruled out for offside, while the second attempt hit the post. Michael Oliseh's superb overhead kick also hit the post and went wide.

Mbappe then scored his second goal in the 74th minute to seal a 3-0 victory for France. With this match, Mbappe's total World Cup goals reached 18. He is now the second-highest goalscorer in World Cup history, just one behind top-ranked Lionel Messi.

France entered the tournament with the aim of reaching the World Cup final for the third time in a row. France had earlier scored 10 goals in the group stage and strengthened their chances of winning the tournament by winning all three of their matches against Senegal, Norway and Iraq. Sweden, on the other hand, finished third in their group behind the Netherlands and Japan. They started the season brightly with a 5-1 victory over Tunisia, but then lost to the Netherlands by the same margin. Sweden then secured their place in the knockout stage by drawing 1-1 with Japan in their last match, but the challenge they are now facing is the toughest challenge of the tournament
