A thief with a stolen rickshaw and a motorcycle near Vavol railway crossing in Sector-7 area of Gandhinagar was caught red-handed by the local crime branch with a total of Rs 1.30 lakh. Police investigations have revealed that he was in a conspiracy to steal and sell vehicles with duplicate keys. The man's information was received and he was arrested.
In view of the increasing incidents of vehicle theft in the state capital Gandhinagar, the local crime branch PI K. J. Rathore's teams were patrolling the city area. Meanwhile information was received that a man was hiding in an open space near Vavol railway crossing with a suspicious motorcycle and rickshaw. A motorcycle was hidden in the bushes
On the basis of this information, the police raided the spot and arrested Rahul alias Mehul Gugabhai Mafabhai Patni (R/o G-2 Chhapra, Mul Patan) while sitting in a rickshaw. A motorcycle was also found hidden in the bushes next to it. He did not give any satisfactory answers about the vehicles in the preliminary enquiries. Confessed to theft from Sector 12/13
Following this, a technical investigation revealed that the two vehicles were stolen from the Sector-7 police station area. During the interrogation of the accused, he confessed that he had stolen the motorcycle from the Sector-12/13 checkpoint with the help of a duplicate key twenty days ago. The rickshaw was stolen from the parking lot of the hospital
He also said that the auto rickshaw was stolen from the parking lot of the Civil Hospital four days ago. It has been found that he used this stolen rickshaw for other purposes. The police have seized a total of Rs 1.30 lakh from him and further investigation is underway.
