Tensions between the United States and Latin American countries have escalated after the US military action in Venezuela. Colombian President Gustavo Petro has openly challenged US President Donald Trump on this whole issue. "If you dare, come and show me, I'm here and I'm waiting for you," Petro told Trump. Colombia's president said on Monday that if the United States attacked Colombia or the surrounding areas, it would have a "very big impact". He said that if the US bombs, the farmers living in the villages can take up arms and go to the mountains and start guerrilla warfare. Petro also warned that if an attempt was made to capture the president, who is loved and respected by a large population of the country, public anger would erupt and the situation would become uncontrollable. Earlier in August, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro also challenged Trump and said that if he had the courage, come and catch him. After this, the United States further increased the reward amount for Maduro's arrest. Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro appears to taunt U.S. President Donald Trump, saying, “Come get me, coward! He said that he had vowed that he would never pick up a gun again, but that he could take up arms again if the need arose to protect the country and the motherland. Earlier, Trump had made serious allegations against Colombia. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump said that Colombia is a sick country and there is a person who makes cocaine and sends it to the United States. Trump also said that this president will not be in power for long. Not only that, Trump also made a statement that he thinks military action against Colombia is a good idea. The Colombian government reacted to the statements, saying it believes in dialogue, cooperation and mutual respect in international relations. The government has categorically stated that it is not appropriate to threaten or use force against any country and is against international law. Earlier in October, the Trump administration imposed sanctions on Colombian President Petro and some members of his family, accusing them of links to drug trafficking. Colombia is considered the world's largest producer of cocaine. The coca plant used to make cocaine is grown in countries such as Colombia, Peru and Bolivia. The White House released a video on the social media platform X on Sunday, showing Maduro's old statements and videos of U.S. action. The video also included remarks from US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, in which he said that Maduro was given a chance, but he lost it and now he is suffering the consequences. The video also shows scenes from President Trump's press conference on the actions taken on Venezuela.
