IndiGo has launched a new and cheaper fare 'Indigo Lite' for passengers travelling with only cabin bags i.e. 'carry bags'. Its limit will be 7kg. India's largest domestic airline has taken this step to reduce the prices of air tickets, so that passengers travelling without major luggage have to pay less. Earlier this month, Air India also launched a basic economy fare for passengers who do not want free meals on flights and want to travel at a lower cost. Understand IndiGo's new changes in 5 simple Q&A Question 1: What is 'Indigo Lite' and how is it benefiting passengers? Answer: 'Indigo Lite' is a new entry-level economy class fare from the company. This is specifically designed for passengers who travel with less luggage. Under this, passengers will have to pay a lower base price i.e. basic fare as compared to a normal ticket. At the same time, they will be allowed to carry auto-assigned seats (seats allotted by the system) and cabin bags up to 7kg without any additional charges. Question 2: When and where will this new fare apply? Answer: This new fare of IndiGo will be applicable on both domestic and international flights. Bookings have started on the company's website and mobile app from July 1, while the fare will start from July 15. Question 3: Why did IndiGo take this step and what does the company have to say about it? Answer: Nowadays airlines want to charge passengers only for the services they use. Alok Singh, Chief Strategy Officer, IndiGo, said, "This is designed for customers who travel lightly and want to pay only for the services they need. This shows our commitment to adapt to the market and make travel more accessible and affordable." Question 4: Are other airlines offering similar cheaper options? Answer: Yes, companies are constantly making such changes due to increased competition in the market. Air India also introduced a basic economy fare last month, which did not include complimentary meals. In addition, a similar cabin-bag-only system is already available on the direct channels of Air India Express. Question 5: What is the big news about the prices of jet fuel (ATF)? Answer: The government has reduced the prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) i.e. Jet Fuel by Rs 5 per litre for domestic airlines. After this reduction, the price of ATF in the country has come down to Rs 110 per litre. Making fuel cheaper will also help airlines control ticket prices.
