Most runs in ODI debut... South African batsman sets world record

Such a blast in the debut match that the name was recorded in the record book. South Africa's 24-year-old Jordan Harman did wonders with the bat in the first ODI against Namibia. The left-handed opener scored 150 runs in his very first ODI innings. With this brilliant innings, Harman equalled the record for the biggest individual innings in ODI debut.

Harman faced 126 balls during his innings. In this, he hit 17 fours and 3 sixes. He hit shots in every part of the field and kept the pressure on the Namibian bowlers constantly. With 150 runs, he equalled the record of his own teammate Matthew Breetzke.

Breetzke also scored 150 runs

Matthew Breetzke made his ODI debut on 10 February 2025 against New Zealand at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. He scored 150 runs off 148 balls. His innings included 11 fours and 5 sixes. Now Harman has also equaled his record by scoring 150 runs.

Before Herman and Breetzke, the record for the biggest innings in ODI debut was in the name of Desmond Haynes of the West Indies. Haynes scored 148 runs off 136 balls against Australia on 22 February 1978. In this innings, he hit 16 fours and 2 sixes. This record stood for about 47 years. After this, Breetzke in 2025 and now in 2026, Harman left this record behind by scoring 150 runs.

Gurbaz and Chapman did wonders too

South Africa's Colin Ingram scored 124 against Zimbabwe in 2010 and Temba Bavuma scored 113 against Ireland in 2016. Martin Guptill made his ODI debut memorable by scoring an unbeaten 122 in 2009, Andy Flower with an unbeaten 115 in 1992 and Phil Hughes with 112 in 2013.
