Congress leader V D Satheesan will be the next Chief Minister of Kerala. The Congress announced it on Thursday, 10 days after the state election results were declared. Satishan is an MLA from Paravur seat. Congress leader Deepa Dasmunshi said at a press conference that the Congress held a meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on May 7. After discussing with Rahul Gandhi, it was decided that Kerala CM VD Satheesan would be the Chief Minister. After the announcement of the name, Satish said, "I consider this post not as a personal achievement but as a divine grace. I will take all the leaders including Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala into my confidence. The names of three leaders — KC Venugopal, Ramesh Chennithala and V D Satheesan — were doing the rounds for the chief minister's post in Kerala. Finally, Satheesan's name was sealed. Kottayam MLA Radhakrishnan said the high command listened to the views of all parties and Rahul was directly involved in the entire process. A democratic process was adopted for the elections. The Congress has 63 seats. According to the report, 75-80 per cent of the Congress MLAs supported KC Venugopal in the meeting. VD Satheesan got the support of only 6 MLAs. However, after the meeting, three former state presidents supported Satheesan's name. Apart from this, UDF allies IUML and Kerala Congress (Joseph) supported Satheesan.
