Viral infection has increased in Navsari: 999 cold-fever patients have been reported in Civil Hospital in a month.

The state is experiencing a dual season of cold in the morning and heat in the afternoon. The direct impact of this mixed environment is being seen on the health of the people. There has been a significant surge in cases of viral fever, cold and cough in the last one month at Navsari Civil Hospital. In the last 30 days, around 999 patients have come to the OPD with complaints of cold-fever. Of these, 49 patients have been admitted to the hospital ward as their condition is critical. Due to the sudden change in the environment, the immunity of the people is adversely affected. In particular, cases of viral fever and allergies are on the rise. However, the hospital administration is geared up to deal with the situation. Adequate number of doctors, nursing staff and special wards have been arranged to ensure prompt treatment of patients. The hospital has issued some guidelines especially for high-risk group patients. Pregnant women and children should avoid eating outside and drink hot water in the changing weather. It is imperative for the elderly and patients with ailments such as diabetes, hypertension or asthma (COPD) to avoid the cold morning air. Those who have cold and cough should wear masks compulsorily to prevent others from getting infected and should avoid going to crowded places. Getting enough sleep and staying away from polluted or dusty areas is also advisable for health. As advised by doctors, if you have difficulty in breathing, have a prolonged fever or feel extremely weak, then immediately contact the nearest hospital instead of resorting to home remedies. Patients who are on regular medication should not fail in their medicines.
