1 dead after being electrocuted while constructing Ganesh pandal

Padra: One youth was electrocuted while they were constructing a Ganesh pandal near Verai Mata temple in Dabka village of Padra taluka, killing one youth and causing minor injuries to others.

The incident took place when the iron angle collided with the high-tension line while constructing the pandal. With just three days left for the Ganesh festival, the work, including the decoration of the Ganesh pandal, is going on in the final phase. In the meantime, suddenly the pole of the pandal was 11 kv on the iron angle. As many as 16 youths were trapped away after being hit by an electric wire. Prakash Dahyabhai Jadav  alias (Sachin), 32, was taken to The Crossroad Hospital in Dabhasa village after he fainted with a more serious injury. Where the doctors declared him dead.

Dabka village has been celebrating Ganesh festival for the last 40 years and was preparing for the 41st year. The youths of the mandal were building a 15 feet high pandal for the 12 feet Ganesh idol. The incident took place when the iron pole of the pandal got stuck to the 11 KV powerline as it was dark.

Mahesh Jadav, head of the Ganesh Mandal, said that the yuvak mandal had booked the idol of Shriji in Vadodara and was to go to Vadodara to collect the idol on Friday, but the incident that took place late in the night has left the entire village in shock. Ganesh festival will be celebrated by establishing a sopari by the mandal.
