Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms wreaked havoc in Shahra taluka of Panchmahal district yesterday. A grandmother and grandson were tragically killed while another person was seriously injured when the wall of a house collapsed due to rains in Kalaria Falia village of the taluka. The wall took two lives.
According to the information received, there was a sudden change in the atmosphere yesterday evening and it started raining with strong winds. In the meantime, the wall of a house suddenly collapsed in Kalaria Falia of Chogala village. Sukliben Jaswantbhai Vanzara, 42, and her 7-year-old grandson, Sureshbhai Vanzara, who were present near the wall, were buried under the debris. Rescue operations and casualties
Following the incident, people in the vicinity immediately rushed to help and removed the debris and pulled out the duo. However, the 7-year-old religious died on the spot. Sukliben, who was critically injured, succumbed to her injuries on the way while being taken by a 108 ambulance for treatment. The father-in-law of the deceased woman, Khattu Vanzara, who was present in the house, was rushed to the hospital with serious head injuries. Police action
The bodies of both the deceased have been shifted to Shahra Referral Hospital for postmortem. Shahra police have registered a case of accidental death in the matter and further legal investigation is underway. The untimely death of 2 members of the same family has spread a lot of grief in the Chogala diocese.
