Patan's inclusion in wire-free city mission: DPR work speeds up, 100 percent underground cabling will make the city wire-free

Patan city has been included in the Wire Free City Mission. Under this project, Patan city will become wire free with 100 percent underground cabling, which will make the electric poles a thing of the past. The work of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this project has been expedited. A meeting was also held between the officials of both the divisions of Patan Power Company and the Patan Municipality in this regard. The Union Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has given in-principle approval to the 'Gujarat Wire-Free City Mission' in order to make the cities of Gujarat smarter, more beautiful and safer. The decision has been taken to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a 'green and smart city'. With the inclusion of the historic city of Patan in this mission, the entire city of Patan will be free from electric poles in the coming times. The North Gujarat Electricity Company (UGVCL) is gearing up to implement this important project of the government in Patan. According to the Deputy Engineer, UGVCL, the survey work has been started in the entire Patan city. At present, the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) of this project is in full swing. The DPR will be submitted to the government for approval by the 20th of next month. Since administrative coordination is very important to make Patan city 100 percent wire free, Deputy Engineers of both City-1 and City-2 divisions of UGVCL held a special meeting with Chief Officer, Patan Municipality. The main reason behind this meeting is that at present the street lights of Patan Municipality are dependent on UGVCL electric poles. When the power company will underground its wires, the street lights of the municipality will also have to be connected to underground cabling. Since this would not have been possible without proper cooperation and consultation with the municipality, both the government departments have started discussions on advance planning. This project will prove to be a historic milestone towards building a smart and safe Patan of the 21st century. What will be the benefit to the citizens of Patan? According to Spokesperson Minister Jitu Vaghani, the project will not only enhance the beauty of cities including Patan but will also strengthen security. Due to underground cabling
