Shah Rukh Khan's 'King' sells foreign rights for Rs 175 crore; 'Ramayan' earns Rs 43 crore in advance bookings

The beginning of 2026 has been a blast for Bollywood. After the blockbuster success of 'Dhurandhar 2', now Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor's films are all set to break records by the end of the year. The overseas theatrical rights of Shah Rukh Khan's film 'King' have been sold for Rs 175 crore. On the other hand, the film 'Ramayan' has earned more than Rs 43 crore from advance bookings in the country and abroad. According to a report by 'Pinkvilla' (entertainment website), Fars Films has bought these rights. It is being called as the biggest overseas rights deal in the history of Indian cinema. This is a big deal to release the film abroad. For Break Even, 'King' will have to earn around Rs 350-375 crore at the international box office. Break-even means that there is neither profit nor loss in the business. That is, the amount of money invested, the same amount will be returned. It is worth noting that till now, the overseas rights of Shah Rukh Khan's films have been with Yash Raj Films. Yash Raj Films released 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan' abroad in 2023. Fars Films, the first film to deal with more than Rs 100 crore, has experience of overseas distribution. The company has partnered with many films of Yash Raj Films. Fars Films was the sole distributor of Prabhas' 'Saaho' overseas. According to the report, the company has given a minimum guarantee (MG) of Rs 175 crore for the rights of 'King'. So far, the overseas rights of any Indian film have not reached Rs 100 crore. In such a situation, this deal is a new record. Generally, the commission model is adopted for the distribution of Bollywood films abroad. In this, the distributor takes a commission instead of buying the rights of the film. Yash Raj Films released 'Jawan' and 'Dunky' abroad on the same model. The same plan was initially for 'King', but Fars Films offered such a huge amount that the deal changed. The challenge of making big for King shows the confidence of the distributor that the minimum guarantee given for a film shows the distributor's confidence. Distributors abroad usually get 50% of the box office gross. According to this, 'King' will have to earn $ 37-40 million just for the break-even. This amount is around Rs 350-375 crore in Indian currency. 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan', which are among Shah Rukh's most successful films, earned around Rs 400-400 crore overseas. 'King' will have to earn at least this much to make a profit. 'Dhurandhar 2' and 'RRR' will have to come close to earning Rs 460 crore or 'RRR' Rs 430 crore for 'King' to be successful. 'Dhurandhar 2' and 'RRR' are among the biggest overseas hits of Indian cinema. 'King' is being directed by Siddharth. The film has been jointly produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures. Shah Rukh will be seen in a new action avatar in the film. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, the film also stars Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Suhana Khan, Anil Kapoor, Abhay Verma and Arshad Warsi. The story of 'King' is based on the journey of a mentor and disciple who struggles for their survival in difficult situations. 'King' will be a big clash in Christmas 2026 'King' will release during Christmas 2026, while Hollywood films like 'Jumanji', 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Dune 3' will also be released. In view of this competition, a large number of theatrical releases are being planned for the film. On the other hand, a report in Bollywood Hungama revealed that film distribution company Pen Marudhar has bought the All India Distribution Rights of 'King' for Rs 250 crore. It is worth noting that Pen Marudhar has an old relationship with Shah Rukh Khan's production house. The company has previously released films like 'Jawan', 'Dunky', 'Zero', 'Badla' and 'Ittefaq'. On the one hand, Shah Rukh Khan's 'King' is already making big records before its release, on the other hand, 'Ramayan', which will be released five days later, is also making a splash in advance bookings. Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash starrer 'Ramayan' Part-1 is releasing in cinemas across the world, including India, on November 5, 2026. The makers had started booking for 'Ramayana' made on a budget of Rs 4000 crore 15 days ago. The release of the film is still 5 days away, but the film has grossed more than Rs 40 crore in the country and abroad. According to trade analyst website Secnilk, Ramayan has so far sold more than 4 lakh tickets in India and the earnings from it have crossed Rs 19.89 crore. Not only in India, but also abroad is waiting for the release of the film. The film has earned more than ₹ 2.5 million i.e. more than Rs 23 crore overseas. As a result, 'Ramayana' has earned more than Rs 43 crore from India and abroad so far. With 5 days left for the release, this figure is expected to increase further.
