Shashi Tharoor warns of Trump's 'sweet' speech, says 'can't forget or forgive 50 percent tariff'

Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump shared words of mutual appreciation through social media and press, But Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has advised caution about this new 'tone'. He said that 50 per cent tariff and derogatory comments made by the top officials of the US are a matter of grave concern for the Indian public.

50 per cent tariff
Shashi Tharoor while interacting with the media in Thiruvananthapuram, said clearly, " We are not in a position to apologise in any way. India has acted very wisely and maturely on this whole issue," he said. In fact, to a question asked about US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick's remark that India will soon "apologize and try to compromise with Trump", Tharoor gave a sharp reply, saying, "I don't think we need to apologize. India has acted very maturely in this whole matter," he said

He also said that the 50 percent tariff imposed by the US has had a serious impact on India. Tharoor also added that discussions on the trade deal have stalled at the moment and there is a need to think deeply between the two countries.

US also gave strict signals
In addition, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant also indicated that more sanctions could be imposed on Russia and its oil-buying countries (including India). He said that this could completely collapse Russia's economy, which would make talks possible.
