Lecture held at the Dramatics Department of Performing Arts: Touch of Modernity will keep the folk style alive and connect it with the present: Raina

Veteran personality of Indian theatre and cinema M.K. A special speech and interactive session was held by Raina. With more than five decades of experience, M.K. Raina interacted with the students about his life journey, nuances of acting and the importance of folk style. Prof. Ajay Ashtaputre, Dean, Faculty of Performing Arts and HOD, Department of Dramatics. Students including Prof. Darshan Purohit were present on the occasion. MK Raina said that "education should not be 'God speaks and devotees listen', but it should be an exchange of ideas. He attaches great importance to folk art. When Bhavai artists and scholars from Gujarat came to us, we realised how liberating the folk style was. Bhavai and folk styles are the real face of our Indian theatre. He cautioned that the folk style is not limited to just beating dholak and drums. Unless we sow the seeds of modernity in our folk style and connect it with the present society, that art will not survive. Instead of making it a museum, we have to move forward with new ideas.
