The Supreme Court on Thursday (January 8, 2026) made a significant intervention, staying the ongoing elections of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). The Supreme Court took serious note of the allegations of cheating, back-dating of orders and manipulation of electoral lists against members of a sub-committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
These are the election court-appointed election officers, former Chief Election Commissioner Shri A.K. They were being supervised by Jyoti. The Supreme Court intervened when the petitions alleged that the sub-committee had connived to issue orders on retrospective dates and illegally altered the electoral list, thereby damaging the integrity of the electoral process
A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta said that if these allegations are true, then they strike at the very foundation of a free, fair and transparent election. In view of the seriousness of the allegations, the court issued notice to the respondents and directed that if any election results have been received, they will not be declared till further orders.
Court emphasized that sports bodies, especially those that operate under judicial supervision, are expected to strictly adhere to the principles of transparency, impartiality and the rule of law. The bench indicated that any attempt to manipulate the electoral processes would come under strict scrutiny.
The petitioners were represented by the legal team led by Senior Advocate Meenakshi Arora, which included Advocate-on-Record Soaib Qureshi, Advocate Sheikh Faraz, Advocate Chetna Different, and Advocate Aman Qayyum Wani. The matter is expected to be heard further after the parties concerned file their responses, in which the Supreme Court will examine the legality of the disputed actions and the sanctity of the JKCA electoral process.
