Surat City News: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is always in the limelight for its work, but this time everyone has been surprised to see the 'display of intelligence' by the engineers and contractors of the municipality. The work being done by the municipality near Canal Road TP 54 in the Dindoli area of the city has stuck the lives of the local residents. Here, drainage and water lines are being laid very close to each other and up and down by contractors, which could invite a major epidemic in the future
engineers' strange planning: water on the gutter and drainage on it again!
generally a safe distance between drinking water lines and sewage sewer lines is mandatory. But the contractors doing the municipality's 'Laliawadi' in Dindoli have ignored all the rules. Here, a new sewer line is being laid; on the other hand, a water pipeline has been laid directly above or next to it. Surprisingly, plans are afoot to lay a drainage line on top of the water line and another big water line on top of it. The entanglement of these 3 pipelines is such that it is difficult to decide which line is going where. If there is a leakage in a line in the future, the dirty water from the sewage can directly mix with the drinking water, which can spread a terrible epidemic
The municipality has forgotten the Gandhinagar-Indore incidents?
Recently, severe cases of cholera and diarrhoea due to contaminated water were reported in Gandhinagar and Indore. Yet the Surat Municipal Corporation authorities have not learnt any lesson from it. The dangerous operation going on in Surat's Dindoli proves that the administration is in a more hurry to complete the contract than the health of the people. Locals are alleging that innocent citizens will have to rush to the hospital in the future due to the sins of the contractors
2 months of open pits: Constant fear of accidents
The negligence ofmunicipality does not stop here. The pits dug for laying water and sewer lines have been left in the open for the last 2 months. The work is going on at a snail's pace, due to which motorists passing by are frequently plunging into this pothole and are falling victim to accidents. There is a lot of anger among the local residents over the issue and they are demanding an immediate solution to the problem. People are asking which 'brilliant' engineer of the municipality has approved such a risky plan?
