Heavy rains in Tapi district: Doswada dam overflows, ukai dam level rises, 5 rivers on two banks, two farmers stranded in Uchhal, 75 roads blocked in the district

Tapi district has been witnessing cloudy weather since the morning of July 6, with Dolwan taluka in particular receiving 6.10 inches of significant rainfall. Due to heavy rains, 5 rivers of the district are flowing on two banks. Doswada dam has overflowed, while the water level of Ukai dam has increased. 75 roads in the district are closed. A total of 75 panchayat-owned roads have been closed across the district, including 11 in Vyara, 19 in Dolwan, 16 in Walod, 28 in Songarh and 1 in Uchchal. The administration has appealed to the people to use alternative routes. The water level of Ukai dam reached 321.44 feet The Ukai dam, similar to Jivadori in south Gujarat, has generated significant inflow of water. The Ukai dam is currently generating 60,345 cusecs of water. As a result, the water level of the dam has reached 321.44 feet, while its alarming level is 345 feet. At present, 800 cusecs of water is being released from the dam through the hydro canal. Doswada dam overflow on Mindhola river The Doswada dam on the Mindhola river has overflowed due to the universal rainfall in Tapi district, following which 3,800 cusecs of water from the dam is currently being released into the Mindhola river. People have been instructed by the administration not to go to the banks of the river and be careful as the water level rises. The water will pass through Songarh, Vyara and Walod towards Bardoli, and the areas along the river bank are being continuously monitored by the system. Two farmers drown in Tapi river near Manekpur in Uchchal Two farmers drowned in the Tapi river near Manekpur village in Uchchal taluka of Tapi district. The two farmers have been identified as Ratilalbhai Gavit and Sureshbhai Gavit. They were swept away by the flow of the river while on their way to the farm. Ratilalbhai Gavit died in the accident. A rescue operation has been launched by the local administration to trace Sureshbhai Gavit. Rescue work has been hampered as heavy rains have increased the flow of water in the river. In Kherwa village of Nizar taluka, a young man was crushed by a wall. The walls of two houses collapsed due to waterlogging in Kherwa village of Nizar taluka. In this incident, a young man named Kishan was buried under the wall. Locals immediately rushed to help and pulled the youth out from under the wall. The injured youth has been shifted to Nizar Hospital by 108 ambulance. The walls of the houses were weakened due to waterlogging which led to the tragedy.
