There is a big gap in the minor canal on the outskirts of Takhatpura village in Dharanidhar taluka of Vav-Tharad district. Due to this gap, the water from the canal was diverted to nearby fields, resulting in extensive damage to the castor crop of the farmers. According to the information received, there was a gap of more than 20 feet in the canal. As a result, millions of litres of water were wasted and fields turned into bats. According to the farmers, the breach of the canal has dealt a major blow to standing crops. Farmer Meghrajbhai said that he had planted castor on more than four acres of land, in which the crop was damaged due to the flooding. There is a lot of anger among the local farmers over the incident. He says that despite frequent gaps in the canals, permanent repairs are not carried out by the system, due to which the farmers have to suffer losses every time. Narmada Nigam official P.S. Prajapati said that there was a gap in the canal due to the formation of nil (mud) in the canal. He added that the water has been switched off and repair action will be carried out. The farmers have demanded the concerned department to repair the canal immediately and give proper compensation to the affected farmers.
