A powerful double earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24, 2026, has left the country severely shaken. Two tremors measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale occurred within just 39 seconds of each other, causing widespread loss of life and extensive damage to infrastructure across the capital Caracas, La Guaira, Carabobo, and surrounding regions. According to preliminary reports, hundreds of people have died, while thousands have been injured or affected. Numerous buildings have collapsed, and rescue and relief operations are still ongoing.
Amid this severe humanitarian crisis, Mahendra Ailani, President of the Human Rights Federation, has written an official letter to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), expressing the organization’s readiness to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to earthquake victims. The organization stated that affected families will not be left alone in this global disaster. The Federation reaffirmed its commitment to actively contribute to relief and rehabilitation efforts through international cooperation and coordination.
The organization emphasized its resolve to stand firmly with the families affected by the earthquake in Venezuela during this difficult time. The Human Rights Federation has expressed full preparedness to participate actively in relief and rehabilitation operations. Its proposed assistance plan includes the provision of emergency relief supplies, clean drinking water, food items, and other essential necessities, along with medical assistance and medicines for the injured and those in need. The organization has also stressed the importance of coordination with the United Nations to ensure that relief efforts are more effective, rapid, and transparent.
On this occasion, Mahendra Ailani, President of the Human Rights Federation, stated: “Humanity recognizes no borders. This disaster affecting our brothers and sisters in Venezuela is a moment of sorrow for the entire human race. We have requested guidance from the United Nations so that effective assistance can be delivered to the victims through a scientific and well-structured approach.”
He further added that responding to natural disasters is not the responsibility of any single nation but a collective duty of the global community. Therefore, all international institutions, social organizations, and donors must come forward to contribute to humanitarian service.
The Human Rights Federation reiterated that, in line with its commitment to the protection of human rights and humanitarian service, it remains fully dedicated to playing an active role in this humanitarian mission.
