There is an uproar in political circles over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls released in the state ahead of the assembly elections in West Bengal. While Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the Election Commission of deleting names by targeting people of select communities, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said that the SIR is important for the security of the country and it is the responsibility of the Election Commission to correct the voter list<>.

Union Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sukanta Majumdar has made a big statement about SIR in a conversation with the media during an election rally in West Bengal on Tuesday (April 7, 2026). He said, ' I feel that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nothing to do with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. This process is very important for the security of the country," he said.
