During the mission, the team had found a civilian North Korean boat, in which some sailors were collecting seaweed. The team felt that their identities had been exposed, so they called off the operation.

New York Times reports that the North Korean sailors were shot while they were unarmed. The SEAL team then planned a safe return. More than two dozen men were involved in this mission, including former officers and military personnel. When asked about this mission, Donald Trump said, " I don't know anything about it. I'm hearing it for the first time right now."

Mission Preparation
In 2018, US intelligence agencies made a proposal to the White House. Trump approved it in the fall of 2018. The SEAL team then conducted exercises for several months in US waters. Then, in early 2019, preparations were made to carry out the mission.

SEALs from a nuclear-powered submarine were sent aboard two mini-submarines near North Korean waters. They had to put communication equipment there and return safely. But the mission was aborted after seeing a boat.
