The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has conducted a major anti-bribery operation at Shinore in Vadodara district. The ACB has taken action against civil engineer Nidhi Patel, who was on duty in Shinore taluka panchayat, and Ashutosh Pathak, a private person who accepted the bribe amount on his behalf, and detained both of them. The action was taken on the basis of a complaint that the contractor had demanded a bribe in exchange for approving government work bills.
Demand 9 per cent commission and Rs 25,000 bribe to pass bill
According to the details of the incident, the complainant contractor was supposed to approve the bills for the development works carried out under the Taluka Panchayat. In return for passing the bill, civil engineer Nidhi Patel asked the contractor to pay 9 percent of the total bill amount as commission to private person Ashutosh Pathak. Accordingly, a bribe amount of Rs 25,000 was fixed. Since the contractor did not want to pay the bribe, he approached the Vadodara ACB and lodged an official complaint.
ACB set a trap and caught the middleman red-handed; Case registered against both the accused.
On the basis of the complaint received, the ACB team carefully set up a trap at Shinore.
