It has been alleged that an NRI living in New Sama area of Vadodara was robbed of Rs 22,000 by Fatehganj police staff and two home guards despite having a liquor permit. During the search of the car in Nizampura area, a liquor bottle was found and the NRI was taken to the police station and demanded Rs 1 lakh. The latter allegedly took away the cash and liquor bottles by the middleman. A petition has been filed with the police commissioner demanding that the CCTV footage of the incident be checked and justice be done. Two home guards dropped me off to check the car
NRI Mitesh Patel said in his petition to the police commissioner, ''I am a citizen of the United States of America and I am currently in my hometown Vadodara.'' I live in New Sama. I also have a valid liquor permit. Sir, early this morning around 2 o'clock, I went to my friend's house in Nizampura. I parked my car on the side of the road and was waiting for them. Two Home Guards came up to me and asked me to get down and check my car with the door open. I followed their instructions and had a bottle of liquor with me at that time. I didn't drink in the car but demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh
They started threatening me after a bottle was found in my car and also called senior staff Suresh. They took me to Fatehganj police station. Even though I didn't drink alcohol in the car, he demanded a bribe of one lakh rupees. I repeatedly told them that I had a valid liquor permit. After this, he called a local man named Hasmukh. He has a shop in the premises of Nizampura bus depot. The same building where the EEC is located. Hasmukh was the mediator on Suresh's behalf. Hasmukh called the shop and snatched Rs 22,000 and a bottle of liquor
After the threats, Hasmukh asked me to come to his shop at Nizampura bus depot and took away Rs 22 and a bottle of liquor from my car. When I asked for my liquor bottle back, they emptied more than half the bottle and returned it to me. The whole incident has left me in a state of mental shock even though I have all the valid and legal documents and have also followed all their instructions and legal rules on drinking. Sir, I request you to check all the CCTV footage of Fatehganj Police Station and Nizampura Bus Depot from 2 am to 3.30 am. Sir, I sincerely request you to kindly investigate the matter and give me proper justice.
