Unseasonal rain puts Gujarat farmers in crisis; Namrata Green Foundation appeals to the Prime Minister — 'Announce an immediate relief package for farmers'

In the past few days, several districts of Gujarat — especially the regions of Saurashtra, North Gujarat, and Central Gujarat — have suffered heavy losses due to untimely rainfall. This rain, occurring at the stage of crop harvesting, has washed away the farmers’ dreams. Many farmers’ crops of rice, cotton, sesame, and vegetables have been completely destroyed. Expressing his pain, one farmer said —
"I toil with the earth all year to grow food, but such untimely rain washes away all my hard work. Now I don’t know what to do or where to turn."

Taking this suffering into consideration, the Namrata Green Foundation has requested, through an email to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), that the Central Government immediately announce a special relief package for farmers. The foundation has stated that farmers are the nation’s food providers, and if they themselves sink into despair and debt, the nation’s food security could be at risk.

A representative of the Namrata Green Foundation said — "Rajdharma (the duty of governance) is not merely the exercise of power; it is the moral duty to understand the suffering of the people and deliver justice without delay. Government policies must reflect humanity and sensitivity to the needs of the time."

Here arises a major question — why are decisions related to elected representatives or officials taken within a few days, but actions on issues concerning farmers or ordinary citizens take months or even years? This delay is not merely a part of administrative procedure but also a test of the nation’s moral commitment.

Farmers in Gujarat are currently going through economic and psychological distress. Many were unable to apply for crop insurance, while others are facing long delays in receiving insurance payments. On the other hand, the rising prices of fertilizers and seeds have gradually made farming an increasingly unstable occupation. With an appeal to sensitivity, morality, and the true spirit of Rajdharma, farmers hope that the government will soon conduct a survey and announce fair compensation and a relief package, so that they can once again step into their fields with renewed faith.
