The scorching heat of summer continues in Gujarat. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature has been recorded in most parts of the state. The weather remained completely dry in the state during the last 24 hours. The highest temperature of the state on June 8 was recorded in Ahmedabad at 42.2°C, which is +1.3°C above normal. Amid the scorching heat, there are now signs of the arrival of monsoon. The southwest monsoon is progressing rapidly over the country. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon has reached 13 states in five days. It entered Telangana on Monday. The monsoon is now 150 km away from Mumbai on the west coast. In the next 48 hours, it can knock in Mumbai. Banaskantha district has been witnessing a change in the weather since early morning today (June 9). Cloudy weather has been reported in many parts of the district, including Amirgarh, Iqbalgarh, Deesa, Palanpur, Dantiwada, Dhanera, Kankrej. Due to the clouds in the sky, there is an atmosphere of anxiety among the farmers. At present, crops including millets and groundnuts are in ready condition in the fields, which has caused panic among the farmers due to the fear of rain. The southwest monsoon is progressing at a rapid pace. It has already entered Maharashtra, Karnataka, some more parts of Andhra Pradesh and some parts of Telangana. Conditions are becoming favourable for further advance of monsoon into remaining parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal during next 2-3 days. At present, mainly southwesterly to westerly winds are blowing in the lower levels of Gujarat.

On the other hand, there is a heatwave alert in the western districts of Rajasthan. Sriganganagar recorded a temperature of 45.6°C on Monday. Phalodi recorded 44.8°C, while Jaisalmer and Bikaner recorded 44-44°C. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a rain alert in 15 states on Tuesday.
