Amarnath Yatra begins; 9,000 pilgrims to visit on the first day: Oxygen booths at every 2 km, waterproof domes built at 12 places on Baltal Marg

The 57-day Amarnath Yatra began on Friday. The first batch of pilgrims left from Baltal base camp in Ganderbal district and Pahalgam (Nunwan) base camp in Anantnag district to seek blessings at the holy cave of Baba Barfani. The group includes 4,822 pilgrims. All these pilgrims reached the base camp on Thursday. According to the Jammu and Kashmir administration, a total of 9,000 people, including the first batch of pilgrims, security personnel and support staff, will complete the yatra by this evening. Oxygen booths have been set up at every two kilometres on the yatra route. Weather information is being displayed on big screens at four locations on the Domel route. Waterproof domes have been set up at 12 places on Baltal Marg. The Amarnath Yatra is done through two routes. The traditional route is 48 km long from Nunwan-Pahalgam. The second route is a 14-kilometre-long road from Baltal in Ganderbal district. The yatra will conclude on August 28. For the next 57 days from today, the chants of Baba Barfani will reverberate in the high valleys of the Greater Himalayas. The Amarnath Yatra has begun. On Thursday, Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha dispatched the first batch from Bhagwati Base Camp in Jammu to Baltal and Pahalgam. The contingent consisted of 4,822 pilgrims, who left under a security cover of 259 vehicles. The second batch of 3,865 pilgrims will reach Kashmir late on Friday evening. Out of these, 1,735 pilgrims are going to Baltal base camp in 115 vehicles, while 2,130 pilgrims have left for the traditional Pahalgam route in 86 vehicles. On Saturday morning, 3,865 pilgrims will leave from Baltal and Nunwan-Pahalgam base camps for darshan of the holy Amarnath cave.
