Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) Commander-in-Chief Bashir Jeb has been removed from his post. Bashir Jeb made his mark by plotting many major attacks in Pakistan. After the video of Bashir Jeb with armed fighters in Balochistan went viral, he was compared to Hamza Ali Mazari, the character of the film 'Dhurandhar'.
Media reports are claiming that resentment against him was growing in the organization over the failed operation against the Pakistan Army and the use of female suicide bombers. He was removed only last month, the news has now come out. The BLA issued a press release on November 3 stating that Bashir Jeb will no longer be the commander-in-chief of the organization. The statement was published in the Balochistan Post. The organization said that all administrative, military and policy decision-making powers held by Bashir Jeb have now been handed over to the Senior Command Council. Until a new commander is appointed, all major decisions of the organization will be taken by this council. According to the Balochistan Post, the decision to remove Bashir Jeb was taken at a meeting of the top committees of the BLA held on October 16. The commanders present at the meeting unanimously approved the change in leadership. The BLA termed the change as a peaceful leadership change in accordance with the rules of the organization. The organization claims that the decision to remove Bashir Jeb did not cause any division in the organization nor did it create a situation of confrontation between the commanders. The reason for the removal and the whereabouts of Bashir Jeb are unclear The BLA has not given any specific reason for the removal of Bashir Jeb from the post. The organization has only said that the decision was taken under the constitutional rules framed by it in 2018. According to these rules, no commander can hold the highest post of the organization for life. On the other hand, no information has been revealed about the current whereabouts of Bashir Jeb. It is not clear whether he is currently free, in custody or has moved elsewhere. Reports of his injuries or receiving treatment elsewhere have also not been confirmed. Major attacks by the BLA under the leadership of Bashir Jeb Due to the continuous attacks of the BLA, maintaining the security arrangement in Balochistan became a major challenge for the Pakistan Army and the government. The security forces, led by Army Chief Asim Munir, had to launch a continuous campaign against the organization. In such a situation, the sudden decision to remove Bashir Jeb from the post has raised many questions. One of the reasons for the removal of Bashir Zeb could also be the internal disagreements over the organization's military strategy. According to a report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), the top commanders of the BLA had been dissatisfied with the results of Operation Haroff-2 for several months. Operation Haroff-2 was launched on January 31, 2026. Under this, the BLA carried out several simultaneous attacks on Pakistani security forces and government installations in Balochistan. But in the retaliatory action of the Pakistan Army, the organization suffered heavy losses. Controversy over bringing together a large number of fighters According to PICS, differences arose between Bashir Zeb and Captain Rehman Gul, the head of the Majeed Brigade, a special suicide unit of the BLA, over the results of the operation. Citing sources familiar with the internal affairs of the organization, PICSS said that Rehman Gul questioned Bashir Jeb's strategy of attacking. He believed that sending a large number of fighters to multiple locations at once made them easily targeted by the Pakistani security forces. Rehman Gul was instead in favour of sending fighters in small groups. He believed that such groups could change their location immediately by carrying out surprise attacks. This made it difficult for the Pakistani security forces to catch them. Pakistani security forces retaliated against the BLA after Operation Haroff-2, which claimed that 215 fighters were killed in a week. According to PICSS estimates, at least 215 fighters of the BLA were killed within a week in this operation. On the other hand, the organization acknowledged the deaths of 96 fighters. According to the think tank, deploying a large number of fighters simultaneously to different locations helped the Pakistan Army to trace their whereabouts and movements. This made it easier for the security forces to take action against them. Resentment over the use of women suicide bombers The BLA, under the leadership of Bashir Jeb, increased the use of suicide attacks. It also included female suicide bombers. This strategy was criticized both inside and outside the organization. According to a BBC Urdu report, people in the organization believed that the use of women suicide bombers had damaged the entire Baloch movement. Support for the movement was weakened, especially outside Balochistan. According to Pakistani researcher Malik Siraj Akbar, the BLA was doing this deliberately, as attacks by women attackers get more space in the media. Khurram Iqbal, an expert at Quaid-e-Azam University, told BBC Urdu that the more violent the BLA's attacks, the less support it received outside Balochistan. According to him, suicide attacks are not considered good in the world. According to the PICSS report, the impact of these differences began to be visible as early as February 2026. Bashir Zeb gradually began to be isolated from the organization's major decision-making process. After that, Captain Rehman Gul's role in military operations and other activities of the organization increased. However, the BLA did not mention Operation Haroff-2 or any dispute between the commanders as the reason for the removal of Bashir Jeb. This information is based on the report of the think tank and its sources.
